O Rei Leao & More Out and About

O REI LEAO
(The Lion King)
We learned, almost by accident that Lion King was playing it's last week in Sao Paulo.  We decided that this would be one of very few plays that we would enjoy in Portuguese, since we've seen it a few times.  With the help of Craig's secretary, we were able to get tickets, via "motoboy", (half price for seniors) and figure out how to get to the theatre by bus and subway.
I was so excited to do something fun after a hard few weeks.
I was not disappointed!  Loved every minute of almost 3 hours.
Some of our party had never seen it on stage,
but they could mostly understand the dialog.
Music, costumes and sets were amazing as always.
Elder Wilkins while waiting outside the theatre.
 and this is the inside

Quite a line-up but I don't think all the seats were full.  I was really surprised that the final Sat. matinee would still have tickets left.  It turns out that it had been here for several months already.
This is an underground scene in one of the subway stations on our way to the theatre.
Inside a cathedral that we stepped inside on the way also.

EMBU DAS ARTES
This was the funnest "market" so far.
So much colorful beauty and talent.

These are what their phone booths look like.
I haven't seen one that hasn't been decorated with graffiti.
They are called orelhas (ears) :)
There are several of these mosaic tile benches~
We stumbled upon these Elders.
It's always fun to meet and talk with the missionaries,
they get very excited to see Americanos.

very tempting!

We stopped for lunch at an outdoor cafe.
This was our lunch for 3 of us.
Usually when we have to order from a menu, we really don't know what we're going to get :)
They very often serve rice and french fries as the standard side dish.

This was an extra interesting sight.  It's campaign time here in Brazil.
Made me think of our son, Craig.
His boys would love riding these bikes around town, with their dad's sign attached!
One day we also saw, instead of signs, people waving campaign flags in a busy intersection~
An interesting side-note, one presidential candidate was killed last week in an airplane crash.
Narrows the field I guess~
